From Carmi to Afghanistan

Christian Castro, a former BCHFS resident, expresses pride and honor in serving his country in the United States Marine Corp. Chris is stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA. waiting for his orders to leave for Afghanistan.
As a morterman, Sergeant Castro will be muzzle loading an 81mm cannon of the infantry division. He explained that most of what he has been prepared to do can almost be done in his sleep. The training is so rigorous because the job is so serious! He expects to serve in Afghanistan for seven to nine months, but there is always room for change.
Living at the BCH has prepared Chris for his service to the United States Marine Corp. The organized schedule, the responsibility for your own actions and every day duties, the discipline, and high morals established while living at the BCH made this transition in his life go very easily. Having lived in a place with various people prepared him tremendously for dealings with his military company.
He has every intention of making this a career. There is not much spare time, but on rare occasions Chris still loves to explore his artistic and musical abilities. He keeps in contact with many of his “family” friends back in Carmi. “I am not scared of the future because I know God has a plan,” Castro commented when asked about leaving everyone behind for a foreign land. “Just pray for troop welfare” was all this brave soldier could selflessly say when asked how we could specifically pray for him.
The staff here at BCH is proud of the road Chris Castro has chosen. We ask that you pray not only for the safety and welfare of Chris and his company, but also that Chris will see and rejoice in the plan God has laid before him.
